Truth in Drafts

I typed out the truth
but only sent goodnight.

Closed my eyes and dreamt
every word I wished to rewrite.

I woke up with dread
Finding my message unread.
Drafted the same paragraph
only to delete it with a bitter laugh

I’ve emptied another bottle of wine
The only luxury he left behind.
Red flags kept waving, I am colorblind
I’ve made excuses when he wasn’t kind.

I urged myself to be brave
the damsel no one came to save.
Packed his clothes with his favorite drink
the final truth, now written in ink.

I write what I can’t say out loud.
